Too many exclamation marks! I think the editor would have noticed and told Anthony that one exclamation mark per paragraph is too many - and that it makes the narrator seem like she is much younger than sixteen. I think it may be the reason I didn't really like the main character; she seems kind of stupid at times. For this reason, and that the ending wraps up VERY neatly, particularly for post-apocalyptic fiction, I would say this novel skews very young on the YA scale.
I did like that it was set in the northwest and in places I am very familiar with. It seemed kind of forced and unnatural at first - like the author picked places off a map not knowing anything about them - but it got a little better.
