I liked this book, but had many of the same problems with it that other readers described. It started off as really creepy and cool, but it ended up not being a horror novel - even one for children. This books is also published as YA and, again, it starts out reading like YA, but by the end seems more like a middle grade novel. I kept forgetting that Jacob was 16, and kept thinking that he was 12 (until he made out with his Grandpa's ex-girlfriend).
But I did enjoy the book and am pretty impressed with how the author pulled together a story from old photographs. I never really felt that any of the photos were arbitrary or excessive, but that they complemented the story well.
