The Casual Vacancy - J.K. Rowling Well done, Rowling. I really liked this novel, apart from any feelings of really wanting to like it, because it's J.K. Rowling. I loved the small town setting, and the way the story reveals how one person's life and death can have such a profound and lasting effect on others. The relationships are all very interesting and complex, and I both hate and love everyone in the book at least a little bit, except for those I just hate. It's a very sad story, but also very real.
